perf tools: Fix split kallsyms DSO counting

It's counted twice as it's increased after calling maps__insert(). I
guess we want to increase it only after it's added properly.

perf session: Fix handling when buffer exceeds 2 GiB

If a user specifies an AUX buffer larger than 2 GiB, the returned size
may exceed 0x80000000. Since the err variable is defined as a signed
32-bit integer, such a value overflows and becomes negative.
As a result, the perf record command reports an error:
0x146e8 [0x30]: failed to process type: 71 [Unknown error 183711232]
Change the type of the err variable to a signed 64-bit integer to
accommodate large buffer sizes correctly.

perf util: Fix compression checks returning -1 as bool

The lzma_is_compressed and gzip_is_compressed functions are declared
to return a "bool" type, but in case of an error (e.g., file open
failure), they incorrectly returned -1.
A bool type is a boolean value that is either true or false.
Returning -1 for a bool return type can lead to unexpected behavior
and may violate strict type-checking in some compilers.
Fix the return value to be false in error cases, ensuring the function
adheres to its declared return type improves for preventing potential
bugs related to type mismatch.

perf tests switch-tracking: Fix timestamp comparison

The test might fail on the Arm64 platform with the error:

The issue is caused by incorrect handling of timestamp comparisons. The
comparison result, a signed 64-bit value, was being directly cast to an
int, leading to incorrect sorting for sched events.
The case does not fail everytime, usually I can trigger the failure
after run 20 ~ 30 times:

I used cross compiler to build Perf tool on my host machine and tested on
Debian / Juno board. Generally, I think this issue is not very specific
to GCC versions. As both internal CI and my local env can reproduce the
issue.

The pyrf_event__new() method copies the event obtained from the perf
ring buffer to a structure that will then be turned into a python object
for further consumption, so it copies perf_event.header.size bytes to
its 'event' member:

This isn't a proper, final solution, as we need to support larger

Recently we got a case where a kernel sample wasn't being resolved due
to a bug that was not setting the end address on kernel functions
implemented in assembly (see Link: tag), and then those were not being
found by machine__resolve() -> map__find_symbol().
So we ended up with:

syscall__scnprintf_args may not place anything in the output buffer
(e.g., because the arguments are all zero). If that happened in
trace__fprintf_sys_enter, its fprintf would receive an unitialized

buffer to the output fprintf.

When tried to probe symbol "print_data(int)", the log shows:
Symbol print_data(int) address found : afc
The found address is 0xafc - which is right with verifying the output
result from nm. Afterwards when write event, the command uses offset
0xb38 in the last log, which is a wrong address.
The dwarf_diename() gets a common function name, in above case, it
returns string "print_data". As a result, the tool parses the offset
based on the common name. This leads to probe at the wrong symbol
"print_data(Point&)".
To fix the issue, use the die_get_linkage_name() function to retrieve
the distinct linkage name - this is the mangled name for the C++ case.
Based on this unique name, the tool can get a correct offset for
probing. Based on DWARF doc, it is possible the linkage name is missed
in the DIE, it rolls back to use dwarf_diename().

corresponding null pointer checks in the implementation of the function

Thus avoid the risk for undefined behaviour by removing extra

pointer check).
This issue was detected by using the Coccinelle software.

On aarch64 CPU related events are not under event_source/devices/cpu/events,
they're under event_source/devices/armv8_pmuv3_0/events on my machine.

perf llvm: Fix inadvertent file creation

The LLVM template is first echo-ed into command_out and then
command_out executed. The echo surrounds the template with double
quotes, however, the template itself may contain quotes. This is
generally innocuous but in tools/perf/tests/bpf-script-test-prologue.c
we see:

where the first double quote ends the double quote of the echo, then
the > redirects output into a file called f_mode.
To avoid this inadvertent behavior substitute redirects and similar
characters to be ASCII control codes, then substitute the output in
the echo back again.

perf env: Do not return pointers to local variables

It is possible to return a pointer to a local variable when looking up the architecture name for the running system and no normalization is done on that value, i.e. we may end up returning the uts.machine local variable. While this doesn't happen on most arches, as normalization takes place, lets fix this by making that a static variable and optimize it a bit by not always running uname(), only the first time. perf auxtrace: Fix address filter duplicate symbol selection

When a match has been made to the nth duplicate symbol, return
success not error.
Example:

parisc: Align parisc MADV_XXX constants with all other architectures
commit 71bdea6f798b425bc0003780b13e3fdecb16a010 upstream. Adjust some MADV_XXX constants to be in sync what their values are on all other platforms. There is currently no reason to have an own numbering on parisc, but it requires workarounds in many userspace sources (e.g. glibc, qemu, ...) - which are often forgotten and thus introduce bugs and different behaviour on parisc. A wrapper avoids an ABI breakage for existing userspace applications by translating any old values to the new ones, so this change allows us to move over all programs to the new ABI over time. perf probe: Fix to get the DW_AT_decl_file and DW_AT_call_file as unsinged data

DWARF version 5 standard Sec 2.14 says that
Any debugging information entry representing the declaration of an object,
module, subprogram or type may have DW_AT_decl_file, DW_AT_decl_line and
DW_AT_decl_column attributes, each of whose value is an unsigned integer
constant.
So it should be an unsigned integer data. Also, even though the standard
doesn't clearly say the DW_AT_call_file is signed or unsigned, the
elfutils (eu-readelf) interprets it as unsigned integer data and it is
natural to handle it as unsigned integer data as same as DW_AT_decl_file.
This changes the DW_AT_call_file as unsigned integer data too.

perf symbol: correction while adjusting symbol

perf doesn't provide proper symbol information for specially crafted
.debug files.
Sometimes .debug file may not have similar program header as runtime
ELF file. For example if we generate .debug file using objcopy
--only-keep-debug resulting file will not contain .text, .data and
other runtime sections. That means corresponding program headers will
have zero FileSiz and modified Offset.
Example: program header of text section of libxxx.so:

Offset and FileSiz have been changed.
Following formula will not provide correct value, if program header
taken from .debug file (syms_ss):
sym.st_value -= phdr.p_vaddr - phdr.p_offset;
Correct program header information is located inside runtime ELF
file (runtime_ss).

perf script python: Remove explicit shebang from tests/attr.c
commit d72eadbc1d2866fc047edd4535ffb0298fe240be upstream. tests/attr.c invokes attr.py via an explicit invocation of Python ($PYTHON) so there is therefore no need for an explicit shebang. Also most distros follow pep-0394 which recommends that /usr/bin/python refer only to v2 and so may not exist on the system (if PYTHON=python3). perf intel-pt: Fix segfault in intel_pt_print_info() with uClibc

uClibc segfaulted because NULL was passed as the format to fprintf().
That happened because one of the format strings was missing and
intel_pt_print_info() didn't check that before calling fprintf().
Add the missing format string, and check format is not NULL before calling
fprintf().

perf kcore_copy: Do not check /proc/modules is unchanged

/proc/kallsyms and /proc/modules are compared before and after the copy
in order to ensure no changes during the copy.
However /proc/modules also might change due to reference counts changing
even though that does not make any difference.
Any modules loaded or unloaded should be visible in changes to kallsyms,
so it is not necessary to check /proc/modules also anyway.
Remove the comparison checking that /proc/modules is unchanged.

genelf: Use HAVE_LIBCRYPTO_SUPPORT, not the never defined HAVE_LIBCRYPTO

When genelf was introduced it tested for HAVE_LIBCRYPTO not
HAVE_LIBCRYPTO_SUPPORT, which is the define the feature test for openssl
defines, fix it.
This also adds disables the deprecation warning, someone has to fix this
to build with openssl 3.0 before the warning becomes a hard error.
